I love it when stitchers take my designs and make them their own, whether they add their own wording, change the colors, or take out some elements that don’t suit them. I will admit, that there are times when such changes don’t work, but if the stitcher is happy with the outcome, that is all that matters.
Arabesque is one of my designs that shines when a stitcher adapts it to their own look and style. There are so many possibilities with a monochromatic design such as this. Whether they simply change the floss or linen color, or change it from monochromatic to multiple colors, the finished piece is beautiful.

Original model stitched in Hand-dyed Fibers Silks OMG 1145 on 46 ct Winter White by Seraphim Hand-dyed Fabric by Raymond Jenkinson-Ng. Stitch count is 157 x 243. Model stitched by Jean Bendula, owner of Brick City Cross Stitch in Ocala, FL. This is stitched with white floss on red fabric. I don’t have the details. Jean’s framer hand-cut the mat and painted the swirls. I LOVE how this “reverse” version looks! Stunning!
Arabesque as stitched by Shawn LaFleur. As you can see, she won a blue ribbon for it at the Texas State Fair! Shawn’s favorite color is green, so she stitched hers with a dark green silk by Vikki Clayton (Hand-DyedFibers.com on 46 ct Attic Lace by Lakeside Linen. Lovely!
Michele Gabriel went purple for her version of Arabesque! Michele used Sulky 1299, Purple Shadow on good old white Zweigert Aida! Love it!
This gorgeous version of Arabesque was stitched by Darlene Llewellyn-Konecny. She used the wonderful silk floss Darling by Missus Sedas. Definitely one of my favorite colors of silk floss! Beautifully done, Darlene!
Jerica thought outside of the box when choosing her colors, as she so often does, with stunning results! Her Arabesque is no different. She stitched hers using 46 ct Flax linen and Silks4U PR204. Such a gorgeous combination!
This beautiful example of Arabesque was stitched by Beth Shaw. She went a little more neutral than the others I’ve shown you so far. Beth stitched hers using DMC 930 and 841, one strand of each held together. Beautiful!
This beautiful version of Arabesque, stitched by Patti Nichols, is the first one done in different colors – 3 different shades of purple. For hers, Patti chose DMC 3807, 3838 and 3839. Isn’t it so fun to see what Patti chose to highlight in the different shades. So lovely!
This pretty version of Arabesque was stitched by Cynthia Tenney on 36 ct Blush linen by Atomic Ranch Fabrics using Cassis by Roxy Floss Co. So pretty in pinks and red!
